SU Center Provides Support, Benefits
to Veterans
For Sgt. David Mancuso, beginning college life after
serving in the military was a difficult and lonely experience."You
don't feel like you can relate to anybody, and you don't know if there are
other veterans out there," said Mancuso, a Syracuse University
master's student in exercise science who served at Al-Asad Airfield, the
second largest airbase in Iraq, in 2004. But Mancuso is hopeful that the
newly opened Veterans Resource Center at SU can benefit veterans. See
Mancuso's interview on Weekend CNY from
Saturday, November 14. The Resource Center, located in University
College, Room 312, is open Monday through Thursday 1-8 p.m. and Friday 1-5
p.m.

It's Snowing! It's Blowing! Is SU
Closed?
SU evening classes are seldom cancelled due to
inclement weather because the campus must remain open to serve residential
students. Only SU's Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs can decide to
cancel classes for bad weather, the county declaring a state of emergency,
etc. Cancellation of classes will be announced on local radio and
television stations.
Nevertheless, if you travel
some distance to class, you should check the SU Hotline (315-443-1870) or Campus Hot News on the
web. Your individual class may be cancelled if the instructor is unable to
get to class and/or find a qualified substitute. Announcements and updates
will be posted regularly in the afternoon and early evening. As always, if
you are out of town and local conditions prevent safe travel, do not come
to class. Your faculty member will be asked to give you consideration under
the circumstances.
If your class meets off
campus, you should anticipate following that facility's decision.
Instructors for UC classes
have been advised to contact their program administrator if they have
problems getting to class or finding someone to cover for them, so that
students can be notified via SU's hotline.
Scholarships
for Your Non-Traditional Situation
A non-traditional student is a student who does not fit
the typical college applicant/student profile. It can sometimes be
hard for non-traditional students to find college scholarships. If you
are a non-traditional student and you have had trouble finding
scholarships, you might find some excellent resources here.
